Chester Hamilton, Jr . stated that he was awakened by the
shooting and obs rved Richard Eubanks runnin from the scene .
A day or two after the incident Chester Hamilton , Jr . heard
Richard Eubanks st te that e , Harold Jenkin and Carl Ginn
were uarding Goldie Eubanks' hou e t the time of the shooting .
Joyce L. Green stated that Richard Eubanks told her he took part
in th shooting at the automobile in w ich the white man was killed.
Defendants were interviewed and refused to make statements .

Sherif L. o. Davi, St . Johns County, stated in substance as
follows:
At approximately 1:50 AM, October 25, 1963 , the St . Johns County
Jail received a call fro the Flagler Hospital that a white male,
William D. Kinard was in the emergency room with a r ifle bullet
in his head .
After examination was conducted it was determined that Kinard was in
critical condition. Kinard was transferred to the Baptist
Hospital in Jack onville, Florida . At 3:20 AM Kinard was pronounc
d dead from gunshot wound to the head.

when they heard several shot •
determined that William D. Kinard,
Dixon Stanford and James E. c ff
near Duero Stre t, in St . Augustine
They looked around and saw several ne ro males gathered in front
of Goldie Eubanks' house on Palmo Street .
They observe gun flashes and heard reports of gun fire coming
from this group of negroe .

The next they knew Willi m Kina.rd had slumped over with a gunshot
wound in his had. They drove Kinard to Flagler Hospital and
notified the County Jail of the incident.
It was approximately 1:00 AM wh n the incident occurred.
Sheriff Davis att mpted to interview Goldie Eubant, Sr . , followinu
the incident and wa told to et off the property unless he haa
aw rrant .
Goldie Eubanks, Sr. would not answer any questions ropounded to
him by Sh riff vis.

the assistance of the Florid Sheriffs Bureau Mobile Crime Unit .
Crime Scene Search Conducted at St . Augustine,

The scene of the shooting is in the Lincolnville section of
St . Augustin, Florida .
The vehicl in which Kinard was passenger was pproximately
88 f et from the corner of Du ro Street, on Central Boulevard,
at the time Kinard received his fatal wound.
The point of firin, observ by witnesses Manucy, Stanford
and Scaff, nd a det rmined by trian ulation by the surveyor of
the City of t . Augustine, Florida, was determined to be near the
1st corner of Duero Stre tan Palmo Street .
Goldie Eubanks' house i located on the west aid of the street at
the corner of Duero and Palmo Street, approximately 35 feet fro
the point of firing .
As arch for empty shells at the point of firing a negative .
One (1) bullet was recovered from tree in the line of fire.

following an autopsy .

A neighborhood investigation in the vicinity of the shooting was
conducted with t e assi tance of members of the St . ugustine
Police Dep rtment and Deputy Sheriffs of St . J0hns County.
Inv stigation determined ther were no other witnesses to the
shooting . A f w ne roes, with reluctance, achnitted hearing the
shooting, but nothing el e .
Effort to interview Goldie Eubanks, Sr. or members of his family
were negative . The family refused to answer any questions .
The shooting was heard several blocks from the scene by a member
of the St. Augustine Police Department an a Deputy Sheriff of
St . Johns County.

H had no knowledg of the incident and did not know who participat

Goldie, Jr., submitted to a lie detector examination conducted

Goldie, Jr., was truthful in all his answer .

He was asleep at the time of the incident and knows nothing concerning
the shooting.
Goldie acknowledged his house wa guarded the night of the shooting
and has been guarded for several weeks.
Goldie, Sr. , refused to tell who w s guardin hi hous the night
of the shooting .
Goldie, Sr . , refused to tell who brought gunu to his house for
guard duty, but did acknowledge that the guards brought their own
guns.
Goldie, Sr. , acknowledged that several people brought uns to his
house to guard, but refused to identify any of them.

· The autopsy reflected lilliam David Kinard, wm 186 Palmer
Street, St . Augustine, Florida, died October 25, 1963.
Cause of death reflected as cer bral hemorrhage and lacerations
associated with fractures of skull, due to gunshot wound of head.

Joyce ' s father, Ben Green, Rt . 3, Box 322A , Johns Island, South
Carolina, made two trips to St . Au~ustine, lorida , during November
~nd December, 1963, look ng for Joyce with negative re ult .
Ben Green stated he talked to all of Joyce's friends and neighbor
and could not evelop any information concerning her whereabouts .
Either th peopl were afraid to get involv d with her dissappearance
or honestly did not know .
During Novem rand December, 1963 , James Kelly, FSB, interviewed
all relatives of Joyce Green in North and South Carolina, in an
ttempt to locate Joyce Green with negative res lts .

Florida, in an effort to locate Joyce Green •

Johnson stated to Kelly and Weatherholt that he had only talked
to Joyce Green once.
He and Bernard S . Mandler, attorney, Miami, Flori da, also representing
the defendants in this investigation, tal ed to Joyce
Green on the Friday night followin Green's arrest .

(The Friday referred to would be Friday, ovember 8, 1963, the
night Joyce Green disappeared . )
